DAIHATSU YONEX Japan Open 2018 History & Historical Results

The Japan Open is a HSBC World Tour Super 750 tournament. Held since 1982, the tournament has been hosted in various cities in Japan, however since 1988, it has been hosted mainly in Tokyo.

The tournament fast became a popular international tournament and it has helped to provide top tier competition for emerging Japanese players.

Akane yamaguchi became the first Japanese to win the women’s singles title in 2012 and followed by Nozomi Okuhara in 2015. Misaki Matsutomo & Ayaka Takahashi won the women’s doubles title twice - in 2014 and following their gold medal winning performance in Rio in August 2016, they won the Japan Open title in 2017.

With Tokyo 2020 around the corner, Tokyo and the Japan Open will continue to be a popular destination for players eyeing a top qualification spot ready for the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games.
