DANISA Denmark Open 2018 History & Historical Results

The Denmark Open is a HSBC World Tour Super 750 tournament. Held since 1935 as an annual badminton tournament by Danmarks Badminton Forbund the tournament has been hosted in eleven different locations.  

The Denmark Open became one of BWF Superseries tournaments in 2007 and it was upgraded in 2011 to a BWF World Premier Superseries tournament. The latest six editions since 2012 have been hosted at the Odense Sports Park, Odense.  

The tournament has become a popular international tournament and it has helped to show case the world’s best players to a passionate badminton fan base. It also provides a platform for emerging Danish talented players.  

The tournament over the years has catapulted the popularity of top Denmark players with home grown heroes reaching the podium. In the first edition in 1935, Danish made a clean sweep with all five events.  Morten Frost Hansen was an eight times winner for the men’s singles title from 1980. Other great players with titles on hand are Joachim Fischer Nielsen, Christinna Pedersen, Kamilla Rytter Juhl, Mathias Boe, Carsten Mogensen, Jan O Jorgensen, Peter Gade and Tine Rasmussen – all world class Danish player and local heroes in the sport in Denmark.
